Snowmaking Installation pt. 3 …and other things

22 January, 2009 (08:41) | Perisher Reports

For some reason I was feeling energetic this morning (odd for a Sunday!) so I found myself heading to Perisher with the aim of walking up to mid station to have a look at the top section of the new Happy Valley snowmaking.

I tried to catch a glimpse of the work happening in the lower arcade of the Perisher Centre but there’s a dirty great big wooden gate blocking it off. I did manage to take this photo through a hole in the gate though

I walked up the road past the Sundeck and to the top of Front Valley. There was quite a heavy fog so the view was limited.

But only a few metres higher and the fog gave way to a beautiful, warm morning.

So what did I see? Not a lot, really. There appears to be two main snowmaking lines. There are guns down the tree lined trail to the skiers left of the Happy Valley t-bar, and guns going down the run adjacent to the t-bar track. That’s really quite impressive as I thought there would only be snowmaking down the t-bar track.

I know I’ve been critical of Perisher of late - mainly about their prices for this year. But I guess this is where your hard earned $102 a day is going. The snowmaking is going to be great - no doubt about it. But whether it’s enough to ease the pain of paying so much is yet to be seen.

Hey wang. I have the pleasure of dealing with PB on some of thier construction works. In the main perisher centre, walls have been removed to make a larger single room of about 900 square meters. All the old ticket booths have been removed and more walls are planned to be removed. Next time one of the contractors head up, I will ask for some photo’s….

Hey that would be cool! Sounds like they are doing exactly what they should have done 10 years ago. I can’t wait to see what it looks like
