27th April 2008 - More Pre-Season Snow!
I have been waiting for this system to hit us for over a week. I got excited about the potential for a massive dump. I was saddened by the almost guaranteed downgrade that happened a few days ago. Then I was encouraged by a slight upgrade. By Friday I was convinced that it was going to happen - we were going to get more snow, and it was going to be cold.
Well, the really cold air hasn’t hit us quite yet. But it is snowing in the mountains above 1400m as I type. The BOM is expecting the snow level to drop below 1000m overnight, so I’m expecting at least a dusting around Jindabyne when I wake up tomorrow morning.
I wasn’t going to drive up to Perisher for a look this afternoon. I was going to wait until tomorrow morning and do the usual pre-work bolt up the mountain to have a look. I’ve come down with a bit of a cold so I’m all stuffed up and headachey and the thought of standing around in the cold and snow taking photos wasn’t that appealing to me. But by 3pm I knew I was kidding myself - I wanted to get some photos of this snow! So I jumped in the car and headed for Perisher.
There were a tonne of kangaroos and wallabies hanging out by the roadside below Sawpit Creek. I think they know it’s going to get cold up there tonight, so they are heading for low ground! It started snowing at Wilson’s Valley, settling at Rennix and by the time I get to Perisher Valley it was dumping. There was about 3cm on the ground when I first got there but you could see quite clearly the new snow building up on top of that.

I was going to head to Charlotte’s but the road didn’t look clear and there were no tracks heading out there so I felt it prudent to turn around.
It really was dumping so I’m expecting a lot more snow overnight. I think I’ll still head up there in the morning. I might just bring the skis

Hey…nice pics…I headed up to Charlotte’s at around 3pm and it was dumping and already at least 20cm on the ground. What time did you take those pics? I saw someone driving around Perisher in a ute…

It was about 3, 3.30ish when I was up there. I can’t comment on Charlotte’s but there was no where near 20cm on the ground at Perisher.
And I don’t drive a ute

There seems to be plenty about… Lets hope we get what Vic has copped. Be sure to let us know how low it (the snow) gets down to tonight. If there is a dusting at Jindy, we want photos
